Adorable Fan Stitch Scarf

Designed by Margret Botha, this scarf combines simplicity with a touch of elegance, featuring a distinctive fan pattern. Perfect for beginners and experienced knitters alike, it’s an engaging project with a stunning result.

Important Note

For the best outcome, it's recommended to use the specified ADORE yarn. The color accuracy in the pattern is as close to the yarn as possible.

Materials

  • Yarn: 2 balls of ADORE (100g each)
  • Needles: One pair of 7mm knitting needles

Measurements

  • Dimensions: 22cm in width and 1m in length

Tension

  • 18 stitches and 16 rows = 10cm in a stocking stitch pattern with 7mm needles. Adjust needle size as needed to achieve correct tension.

Abbreviations

  • K: Knit
  • K2tog: Knit two stitches together
  • P: Purl
  • Patt(s): Pattern(s)
  • Rem: Remaining
  • Rep: Repeat
  • St(s): Stitches
  • Yf: Yarn to front of needle

Stitch Used: Fan Pattern

  1. 1st Row: K
  2. 2nd Row: P
  3. 3rd Row: K2, *(K2tog) 3 times, (Yf, K1) 6 times, (K2tog) 3 times; repeat from * to end of row
  4. 4th Row: K
  • Repeat these four rows for the pattern.

Special Note

  • Always knit the first and last stitch of every row to maintain a firm, straight edge, referred to as the edge stitch, not included in the pattern instructions.

Pattern Instructions

  1. Cast on 40 stitches using 7mm needles. Knit one row.
  2. Continue in the fan pattern to the desired length. Our model scarf measured 80 cm before finishing.
  3. Buttonhole Row (Optional): Made on the 1st row of the pattern. Knit to the last 7 stitches, cast off 3 stitches, knit to the end. Next row, purl, casting on 3 stitches over the previous row's cast-off stitches, purl to the end.
  4. Complete the pattern and work one more pattern set.
  5. Cast off knitwise on a 4th row of the pattern.
  6. Sew on the button as desired.
