Rainbow Cardigan
The Rainbow Cardigan is a baby and toddler cardigan pattern knitted in SESIA Iride 4ply, a colourful gradient cotton yarn. Unlike garments worked seamlessly from the top down, this cardigan is worked flat in separate pieces and seamed during finishing.
The cardigan is worked from the bottom up, beginning with the left front, right front, and back. Each piece starts with a garter stitch border on smaller needles before changing to larger needles for the stocking stitch body. Markers are placed to indicate sleeve placement.
The sleeves are worked from shoulder down to cuff by picking up stitches between the sleeve markers. The neckband and front borders are picked up and worked in rib, with buttonholes worked into the right front border.
The pattern is designed to fit chest sizes from 35 to 50 cm. Finished garment measurements are not provided, so positive ease cannot be calculated from the pattern information supplied.
Before beginning your project, knit a swatch to check that you achieve the correct tension. Adjust needle size if necessary to match the stated gauge, as this will affect both finished size and yarn usage.

The cardigan is knitted flat in pieces from the bottom up. The fronts and back are worked separately, beginning with garter stitch borders before continuing in stocking stitch. Shoulder seams are joined before stitches are picked up for the sleeves.
Sleeves are worked from the shoulder down, then finished with garter stitch cuffs. Stitches are picked up for the neckband and both front borders. Buttonholes are worked into the right front border, then the cardigan is seamed and buttons are sewn on.
Difficulty
