Top-Down Garment Knitting Workshop – The Cloud Collection
Learn Top-Down Garment Construction with the PetiteKnit Cloud Collection
This four-part workshop is designed to help you understand how a modern top-down garment is built – not simply follow a pattern line by line.
You'll choose one design from PetiteKnit's Cloud Collection – Cloud Sweater, Cloud Blouse, Cloud Tee or Cloud Top – and work through the construction with guided support in a small group. Because all four designs share the same basic construction, everyone learns the same core skills while making the garment that best suits their wardrobe.
Workshop Format
- 4 x 2-hour sessions
- Wednesday group: 11:00–1:00 pm (Wednesday 30th Sept, 7th Oct, 14th Oct, 21st Oct
- Friday group: 2:00–4:00 pm (2nd Oct, 9th Oct, 16th Oct, 23rd Oct)

Maximum 6 knitters per group
- If the group needs a little more time to complete the key construction stages, an additional fifth session will be added at no extra charge.
What You'll Learn
Throughout the workshop we'll focus on understanding the construction of your garment, including:
- Choosing the right size and understanding positive ease
- Choosing a suitable yarn or yarn combination
- Swatching, blocking and achieving the correct gauge
- Reading and navigating a PetiteKnit garment pattern
- German Short Rows
- M1L and M1R increases
- Picking up stitches neatly
- Working flat and transitioning to knitting in the round
- Building the back yoke, shoulders and front yoke
- Joining the body at the underarms
- Sleeves or armhole finishing
- Picking up and finishing the neckline
- Trying on, checking fit and adjusting length
- Finishing and blocking your completed garment
Choose Your Cloud
You can choose to knit the Cloud Sweater, Cloud Blouse, Cloud Tee or Cloud Top. Your own PetiteKnit pattern is required and is purchased separately.
Who Is This Workshop For?
This workshop is suitable for confident beginners and intermediate knitters who can already cast on, knit and purl independently. You do not need previous garment-knitting experience. Techniques such as German Short Rows, Make 1 increases and picking up stitches will be taught during the course.

What You'll Need
The PetiteKnit pattern, yarn and needles are purchased separately. We strongly recommend choosing your yarn with us before the workshop so that you can have your gauge swatch knitted and be ready to cast on in week 1. We can help you select an appropriate garment option and make sure you have the correct quantity of yarn and correct needles.
Please bring:
- Your chosen PetiteKnit Cloud pattern
- Your chosen yarn
- A washed and blocked gauge swatch if possible
- The circular needles required for your project
- Tape measure
- Scissors
If you're unsure what to buy, please come into the shop before the workshop and we'll help you choose your pattern, size, yarn and needles.
Before the First Session
Choose your Cloud design, purchase your pattern and yarn, and make a gauge swatch using the yarn or yarn combination you plan to use. We recommend washing and blocking the swatch before class so we can check the finished gauge together.
You do not need to cast on your garment before the first session.
Workshop Fee
$185 per person
Places are limited to six knitters per group so there is plenty of time for individual help with fit, gauge and construction.
