Construction and skills
The blanket is knitted flat as seven mitred squares across by eight rows, with each new square joined by picking up stitches. Paired centre decreases create the diagonal lines. The striped garter borders are worked separately along each edge, then their corners are sewn together. A colour layout chart is included.
The doll's body, head and arms are knitted in the round on small needles, with stranded colourwork on the body. The cuffs and moss-edged bonnet are knitted flat. Stuffing, seams and embroidered details complete the doll; the bonnet has a small pompom.
Suggested skill level: intermediate. Techniques include mitred squares, picking up stitches, paired decreases, knitting small circumferences in the round, stranded colourwork, shaping, moss stitch, seaming and embroidery.

Doll yarn requirements
The doll has its own allowance below, converted from the PDF's weight quantities at 4 m per gram. Weigh blanket leftovers before starting: the PDF warns that, except for shade 2604, extra yarn may be needed for the doll. Do not assume the blanket allowance covers both projects.
| Doll colour | Shade | Doll yarn (m) |
|---|---|---|
| Main colour | 2608 | 60 |
| Contrast 1 | 2613 | 60 |
| Contrast 2 | 2604 | 40 |
| Contrast 3 | 2615 | 40 |
Total doll allowance: approximately 200 m, plus a small amount of black thread for the embroidered eyes.
Tension
The PDF gives 26 stitches and 38 rows over 10 cm on 3.25 mm needles, without naming the stitch used for the measurement. Swatch the blanket fabric, wash and dry before measuring, and adjust needle size to achieve tension. The doll uses 2.25 mm needles; the PDF does not give a separate doll tension.
Needles and notions
- 3.25 mm straight needles and a 3.25 mm circular needle with an 80 cm cord for the blanket and borders.
- 2.25 mm double-pointed needles or a circular needle for magic loop for the doll's small circumferences and flat pieces.
- Stitch marker, polyester toy stuffing and a small amount of black thread for embroidered eyes.
- Tapestry needle for finishing and embroidery.
