Choose a project for your experience
Starting from your first stitch: Begin with a small practice piece. Our beginner guide explains supplies, casting on and a simple knit-stitch exercise. A kit marked beginner may still ask you to purl, shape or sew seams.
Ready for a small project: The Cotton Dishcloths Knit Kit includes instructions for six designs and enough cotton to make six cloths. It suits knitters familiar with casting on, knitting and casting off who want to try different stitch textures. Check the chosen design for any additional techniques.
Comfortable with knit and purl: The Willow Baby Blanket Knit Kit combines a stocking-stitch centre with moss-stitch borders. It is worked flat in one piece, with no seams to sew. A blanket gives you plenty of practice but takes longer than a small accessory.
Ready to learn shaping: The Cheeky Tot Roll Top Beanie Knit Kit introduces crown decreases. Choose the flat method with a back seam, or the alternative method worked in the round on double-pointed needles. Needles and notions are required separately.
Check your kit before ordering
Look at the techniques, finished measurements, yarn quantity and pattern format, then check which tools you already own. Needle sizes are specific to the project and your tension. A With Needles option adds the needles listed for that kit; it does not automatically include every finishing accessory.

Frequently asked questions
Are these kits suitable if I have never knitted?
Some beginner projects assume you can already cast on, knit and cast off; others also need purling, shaping or finishing. Start with our beginner guide and a small practice piece, then check the techniques on the kit listing before choosing.
What is included in a beginner knitting kit?
Contents vary. Read the individual listing for the yarn, pattern format and any included accessories. These are kits for making the project, rather than finished knitted items.
Do the kits include knitting needles?
Only where the listing says so. Some kits have With Needles and Without Needles choices. Check your selected option and the separate notions list before ordering.
Can I knit a project flat instead of in the round?
Choose a pattern with a flat method. For example, Cheeky Tot includes a flat version with a back seam and an alternative version worked in the round. Other kits may offer only one construction method.
Is a baby blanket a good beginner project?
It can be, once you are comfortable with the stitches required. Willow uses knit and purl in stocking stitch and moss stitch, with no seaming. Allow for a longer project and check the finished size and tension.
How do I choose between a beginner and a confident-beginner project?
Use the technique list rather than the label alone. Check for increases, decreases, buttonholes, working in the round and seams. Choose a project whose next steps you feel ready to learn.
