'Cosy' A Simple Scarf Knit Kit
Cosy Scarf Knit Kit
A soft triangular scarf with a playful bobbled edge, worked by holding a strand of Amano Samay together with a strand of lace-weight mohair. This simple project is a lovely next step for a newer knitter and makes a light layer for spring and summer.
Skill level and techniques
Beginner. Knitting flat, knit stitches, casting on and casting off, repeated edge increases and finishing. The unusual cast-on/cast-off edge is explained in the included pattern.
What’s in your kit
- One hank of Amano Samay 8ply, 250 metres of Pima cotton and bamboo
- One ball of African Expressions Hope, 212 metres, or Sesia Vivienne 2ply Silk Mohair, 210 metres, depending on your selected colourway
- Wild & Woolly Cosy Scarf knitting pattern
Hold one strand of each yarn together throughout. The pattern uses 9 mm needles and a tapestry needle for the ends. Select the With Needles option if you want a pair of 9 mm needles included; the Without Needles option supplies yarn and pattern only.
Size and construction
One size: a large triangular scarf that can be worn over the shoulders or draped around the neck. The scarf begins with four stitches and grows through repeated cast-on and cast-off edging. Work until the mohair is almost used, then cast off loosely. The source pattern gives no numerical gauge or finished dimensions; check the fabric you like on 9 mm needles.
Before you start
Wind the Samay hank into a ball before knitting. Read the included pattern for the full row instructions. Care for the finished scarf according to the more delicate yarn label; both mohair options specify hand washing, and the scarf should be reshaped flat to dry.

Is this scarf right for me?
A lovely choice if you can cast on, knit and cast off and want to try something a little different. You'll work with two yarns held together and practise making the decorative edge as the triangle grows. It is knitted flat, so no circular needles are required.

Frequently asked questions
Is the Cosy Scarf suitable for a beginner?
Yes, if you can cast on, knit and cast off. The scarf is worked flat and the decorative growing edge provides a small new challenge.
Do I knit with the two yarns together?
Yes. Hold one strand of Amano Samay together with one strand of the selected lace-weight mohair throughout.
Do I need circular knitting needles?
No. The scarf is knitted flat on 9 mm needles. Choose the With Needles option to include a pair, or use your own with the Without Needles option.
Is there a fixed finished size?
The pattern makes one large triangular scarf, but does not state numerical finished measurements or a set gauge. Its size will depend on your knitting and how far you work with the supplied yarn.
How should I care for the scarf?
Follow the most delicate yarn's care instructions: hand wash gently, reshape and dry flat.
