Gauge, needles and accessories
Gauge: 18 stitches × 24 rows in the textured pattern on 4.5 mm needles, after washing and blocking = 10 × 10 cm. Knit a swatch in the pattern’s textured stitches, wash and block it, and adjust needle size to achieve the required gauge.
Needles: 4.5 mm circular needles (40, 60, 80 and/or 100 cm); 3.5 mm circular needles (40, 80 and/or 100 cm); 3.5 mm double-pointed needles.
Wild & Woolly yarn options
Choose one of the following shop-approved combinations. Both use one strand of the main yarn held together with one strand of 2ply mohair throughout. These are substitutes for the designer’s complete yarn combination, rather than the exact recommended combination.
Option 1: Peer Gynt with 2ply mohair
Hold one strand of Sandnes Garn Peer Gynt with one strand of your chosen mohair.
Option 2: Double Sunday with 2ply mohair
Hold one strand of Sandnes Garn Double Sunday with one strand of your chosen mohair.
Mohair companions include Sandnes Garn Tynn Silk Mohair, Naturally Pacific Lace 2ply, African Expressions Hope 2ply Mohair or Sesia Vivienne 2ply Silk Mohair. Choose one companion yarn.
Estimated yarn requirements
The main-yarn metre allowance is the same for either shop option. Each column gives the metres for that individual yarn; do not add the mohair metres to the main-yarn quantity.
| Size | Peer Gynt or Double Sunday (m) | Chosen 2ply mohair (m) |
|---|---|---|
| XXS | 1092–1183 | 1200 |
| XS | 1183 | 1200 |
| S | 1274 | 1200–1600 |
| M | 1365 | 1600 |
| L | 1456 | 1600 |
| XL | 1456–1547 | 1600 |
| 2XL | 1547 | 1600 |
| 3XL | 1547–1638 | 1600 |
| 4XL | 1638 | 1600–2000 |
| 5XL | 1729 | 2000 |
These are equivalent-metre planning estimates, not confirmed designer consumption for the substitutes. The main-yarn allowance is calculated from the designer’s Peer Gynt quantities at 91 metres per 50 g; the companion allowance is converted at 400 metres per 50 g from the original accompanying yarn.
Peer Gynt supplies 91 metres per 50 g and Double Sunday 108 metres per 50 g. Tynn Silk Mohair and Hope supply 212 metres per 25 g, Pacific Lace 200 metres per 25 g and Vivienne 210 metres per 25 g. Round each component up to whole sale units when purchasing and allow for swatching or extra length.
Swatch both strands together in the pattern’s textured stitches, then wash and block it before measuring. Match 18 stitches × 24 rows per 10 cm and check the fabric before starting; changing the main yarn or companion can affect texture, drape and yarn use.
Frequently asked questions
Does Dagmar Sweater have the same amount of ease in every size?
No. PetiteKnit allows around 26 cm in the smaller sizes and gradually less in the larger sizes. Use the finished bust measurements rather than adding 26 cm automatically for every size.
Is Dagmar Sweater worked entirely in the round?
The back yoke begins in rows, with increases shaping it before the shoulders are picked up. The body and sleeves are then knitted in the round.
