Gauge, needles and materials
Gauge: 10 stitches × 14 rows in stocking stitch on 10 mm needles, after washing and blocking = 10 × 10 cm.
Needles: 10 mm circulars: 60 or 80 cm; 9 mm circulars: 40 and 60 cm.
Designer difficulty: 2 out of 5.
Other materials: Thin elastic thread for the neckband.

Knit with one strand of Broadway Premium NZ Super Chunky on its own. No mohair is needed. This is our shop alternative to the designer’s original held-together combination, so the finished fabric will differ.

Equivalent-metre planning estimates: calculated from the designer’s 110 m per 50 g main-yarn option, dividing its combined two-strand metre totals by two for one thicker Broadway strand. These are not confirmed designer consumption figures for Broadway. Allow extra for swatching and any added length.
Wash and block a generous swatch, aiming for 10 stitches × 14 rows per 10 × 10 cm. Start with the suggested 10 mm needles, adjust to match gauge, and check the drape before buying the full quantity. Keep the pattern’s thin elastic thread for the neckband.
Frequently asked questions
Why does Junior need elastic thread?
The pattern calls for thin elastic thread in the neckband, as well as the knitting yarn.
Are the adult measurements suitable for Junior?
No. Junior has its own 4–14 years sizes, armhole depths and back widths. Compare those dimensions with the child and the clothing worn underneath.
Do I still need mohair with the Broadway option?
No. Use one strand of Broadway Super Chunky on its own. The booklet’s original multi-strand yarn instructions describe a different combination; keep its garment construction and check the Broadway fabric against the blocked gauge.
