Paintbox Pram Coverlet & Beanie Knitting Pattern — Naturally K3002
A colourful mitred-square pram coverlet and matching beanie in seven shades of fine merino. The coverlet’s picked-up squares and striped border make a lively patchwork effect without sewing every square separately.
Construction and skill guidance
The coverlet is knitted flat in six rows of seven mitred squares. New squares are picked up along earlier ones; border stitches are picked up around the edges, with the mitred border corners sewn together. The beanie is worked flat in six triangular sections from a provisional cast-on, then joined with a three-needle cast-off and finished with a picked-up lower edge.
Intermediate: central decreases, picking up stitches, colour changes, a provisional cast-on and a three-needle cast-off.

Yarn requirements
The original recommended Sesia Mistral 4ply merino provides approximately 175 m per 50 g. Use one strand at a time, changing between seven colours.
| Beanie size with coverlet | A (m) | B (m) | C (m) | D (m) | E (m) | F (m) | G (m) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0–3 months | 175 | 175 | 175 | 175 | 175 | 175 | 175 |
| 6–9 months | 175 | 175 | 175 | 175 | 175 | 175 | 175 |
| 12–18 months | 175 | 175 | 175 | 175 | 175 | 175 | 175 |
The leaflet gives one seven-colour allowance for the coverlet and matching beanie, with no separate quantities for either piece: approximately 1,225 m total, divided as shown. Converted at 175 m per 50 g. The photographed colours are green, light blue, mustard, purple, blue, pink and turquoise; select currently available shades and allow extra yarn for swatching.
Gauge and preparation
24 stitches and 48 rows to 10 cm on 3.75 mm needles. One mitred square measures approximately 8.5 × 8.5 cm. The leaflet does not name a stitch for the stitch-and-row gauge; check the finished mitred-square measurement as well.
Make a washed and blocked swatch before starting, adjust needle size to match both stitch and row gauge, and allow extra yarn for swatching.
