Sizes and fit
The designer describes approximately 20 cm positive ease. Compare actual and finished chest measurements for the chosen size: a 56 cm chest in size 3–4 years has 18 cm of ease.

Gauge, needles and materials
Gauge: 18 stitches × 30 rows in the textured pattern on 4 mm needles = 10 × 10 cm.
Needles: 4 mm circular: 60 or 80 cm; 3.5 mm circulars: 40, 60 and/or 80 cm; 3.5 mm and 4 mm double-pointed needles.
Buttons: 5 buttons, 20 mm diameter.
Designer difficulty: 5 out of 5.
Approved shop yarn options
Option 1: Sandnes Garn Double Sunday with Sandnes Garn Tynn Silk Mohair. Hold one strand of each together. Option 2: a 10ply (worsted) yarn, knitted single stranded, without a mohair companion. These are our approved shop alternatives; choose one construction rather than combining the options.
Estimated metres by size: the Double Sunday and single-strand 10ply estimates preserve the designer’s main-yarn length at 125 m per 50 g. The mohair estimate preserves the length of the designer’s 212 m per 25 g companion option. These are equivalent-metre planning estimates, not confirmed test-knit consumption. For option 1 buy both component columns; for option 2 buy only the 10ply column.

Double Sunday contains approximately 108 m per 50 g and Tynn Silk Mohair 212 m per 25 g. A 10ply range has not been specified, so compare the metre length of your chosen yarn rather than transferring ball counts.
Work the pattern’s charted texture swatch, then wash and block it to check 18 stitches × 30 rows per 10 cm and the fabric’s drape. Adjust needle size if needed; 10ply yarns vary. Allow extra for swatching or added length and round up when purchasing.
Frequently asked questions
Should I swatch in plain stocking stitch?
Use the textured pattern. The designer provides a chart for the swatch so you can choose needles that achieve 18 stitches × 30 rows per 10 cm in the actual fabric.
Can I select a size by age alone?
Measure the child’s chest and compare the finished jacket measurements first. A 56 cm chest in size 3–4 years gives 18 cm of ease; length can be adjusted for height.
How is the jacket finished?
Front plackets and a ribbed neck edge are added after the main knitting, with five 20 mm buttons.
Does the single-strand 10ply option also need mohair?
No. Use either one strand of Double Sunday with one strand of Tynn Silk Mohair, or one strand of your chosen 10ply yarn on its own. Check the textured swatch for the option you choose; the table gives separate planning amounts.
