Yarn Requirements
Our recommended yarns are New Zealand Merino 4ply (178 metres per 50 g) and New Zealand Merino 8ply (138 metres per 50 g). Choose one yarn weight and follow the corresponding instructions, using a single strand throughout.
The table converts the pattern’s stated quantities to metres using these yarn specifications. These are planning allowances, not measured consumption; allow extra for swatching or changes to length. Check your washed swatch against the pattern tension before beginning.

You’ll Need
- 3mm and 3.25mm needles for the 4ply version
- 3.75mm and 4mm needles for the DK/8ply version
- Stitch holders
- Stitch marker
- 3 (3, 3, 4, 4, 5) buttons for the vest
Tension
4ply: 28 stitches and 36 rows to 10cm in stocking stitch on 3.25mm needles. DK/8ply: 22 stitches and 30 rows to 10cm in stocking stitch on 4mm needles.
