Construction and skills
The front, back and sleeves are knitted flat in separate pieces, mainly in garter stitch. Stocking-stitch shoulder bands overlap and fasten with buttons. The sleeves and side seams are sewn together, leaving small splits at the lower edge.
You will use knit and purl stitches, increases and decreases, holding stitches, picking up neckline stitches, buttonholes and mattress-stitch seams. The optional flowers use Lazy Daisy stitches and French knots. Read the shaping and finishing instructions before starting.

Yarn choice and preparation
The metre allowances are converted from the supplied pattern's specified yarn: 175 m per sale unit for 4ply and 100 m per sale unit for 8ply. These are purchasing allowances rather than measured consumption. Yarn choice, tension and adjustments to length can change how much you need.
Make a washed and blocked swatch in garter stitch before starting. If choosing a different yarn, match the required tension and check the fabric and drape. Ask Wild & Woolly for help choosing a stocked alternative.
Needles, tension and notions
- 4ply: 3.25 mm needles; approximately 28 stitches and 48 rows over 10 cm in garter stitch.
- 8ply: 4 mm needles; approximately 22 stitches and 40 rows over 10 cm in garter stitch.
- Stitch holders, stitch markers, a sewing-up needle and buttons for the shoulder fastening.
