Shop yarn options
Option 1 — merino with mohair
Hold one strand of New Zealand Merino 12ply with one strand of Sandnes Garn Tynn Silk Mohair. Buy each component separately.
| Size | New Zealand Merino 12ply — estimate (m) | Tynn Silk Mohair — estimate (m) |
|---|---|---|
| 2–3 years | 450 m | 424 m |
| 3–4 years | 450 m | 424 m |
| 4–5 years | 450 m | 424 m |
| 5–6 years | 450 m | 424 m |
| 6–7 years | 450 m | 424 m |
| 7–8 years | 450 m | 424 m |
| 8–10 years | 600 m | 636 m |
| 10–12 years | 600 m | 636 m |
| 12–14 years | 600 m | 636 m |
These shop substitution estimates use this Junior pattern’s own quantities. The merino allowance preserves the original main-strand length at 150 m per 50 g; the mohair allowance preserves the original companion length at 212 m per 25 g. New Zealand Merino 12ply is approximately 104 m per 50 g, so the main yarn is converted by length, not gram for gram.
Option 2 — chunky merino alone
New Zealand Merino Chunky, used single stranded without mohair.
| Size | New Zealand Merino Chunky — estimate (m) |
|---|---|
| 2–3 years | 450 m |
| 3–4 years | 450 m |
| 4–5 years | 450 m |
| 5–6 years | 450 m |
| 6–7 years | 450 m |
| 7–8 years | 450 m |
| 8–10 years | 600 m |
| 10–12 years | 600 m |
| 12–14 years | 600 m |
The chunky-only estimate uses the Junior pattern’s original main-strand length as a starting allowance. New Zealand Merino Chunky is approximately 83 m per 50 g. These alternatives have not been test-knitted; before ordering, confirm 14 stitches and 21 rows per 10 cm and a suitable fabric in a washed, blocked swatch.
Wash and block a swatch before measuring. Match stitch and row gauge and check the fabric; adjust needle size as needed. Round up to complete sale units and allow extra for swatching or changes in length.
