Gauge, needles and accessories
Gauge: 13.5 stitches × 23 rows in garter stitch on 7 mm needles = 10 × 10 cm. Wash and block a swatch before starting, and adjust needle size to achieve the pattern gauge.
Needles: 7 mm and 6 mm circular needles, 60 and 100 cm.

Estimated metre allowances: These are equivalent-metre planning estimates, not confirmed designer consumption for the substitutes. The main-yarn allowance is calculated from the designer’s quantities at 100 metres per 50 g; the mohair allowance uses 210 metres per 25 g. For the single-strand option, use the main-yarn allowance only, rather than adding both strand lengths.
Harmony supplies 87 metres per 50 g, Hope 212 metres per 25 g, and New Zealand Merino 12ply approximately 104 metres per 50 g. Round each yarn up to whole sale units when purchasing. Changing the gauge or adding length can increase yarn use.

Does the Balloon Jacket need sewing together?
Yes. The garter-stitch body and sleeves are worked separately from the bottom up and assembled. Stitches are then picked up for the continuous front and collar band.
