Needles: 5 mm circular needles (40, 60, 80 and/or 100 cm); 4.5 mm circular needles (60, 80 and/or 100 cm) and double-pointed needles.
Notions: Five 20 mm buttons.

These are equivalent-metre planning estimates, not confirmed designer consumption for the substitutes. Main-yarn lengths are converted from the original main yarn at 125 metres per 50 g. The double-companion allowance comes from the original fine yarn at 275 metres per 50 g; dividing that total by two gives the single-companion planning allowance for Options 2 and 3.
The Option 1 mohair quantity already includes both strands: do not double it again. Keep main and companion quantities separate. Double Sunday supplies 108 metres per sale unit, Sunday 235 metres, Harmony 87 metres and Tynn Silk Mohair 212 metres. Round each component up to whole sale units and allow extra for swatching or added length.
Swatch your complete combination in the charted texture pattern. After washing and blocking, match 16 stitches × 28 rows per 10 cm and check the fabric’s drape and structure. Changing fibres or strand count can change yarn use even when stitch gauge matches.
Frequently asked questions
Is Esther Jacket worked entirely in the round?
Its body is knitted back and forth to leave the front opening. The picked-up sleeves are worked in the round.
What should my Esther Jacket swatch include?
Use the texture chart supplied in the pattern, rather than plain stocking stitch. Check both stitch and row gauge before choosing your needle size.
