A complete baby set with a crossover cardigan, matching hat and turn-down booties. Kay Henry’s design combines stocking stitch with soft moss-stitch stripes and garter-stitch front edges.
Construction and skill guidance
The cardigan is knitted flat in separate back, front and sleeve pieces, with raglan shaping and front bands continued around the back neck. The hat is a flat rectangle folded and seamed at the top and side. The booties are worked flat from the sole upwards and seamed at the sole and back. Intermediate — increases, decreases, raglan and crossover shaping, buttonholes and seaming.

Naturally New Zealand Merino 4ply, the supplier’s current Baby Haven range, with 178 m per 50 g.
Approximate combined allowances for the cardigan, hat and booties, calculated from the original Baby Haven quantities at 178 m per 50 g. Work with one strand. The leaflet does not specify separate allowances or finished hat and bootie measurements.

Gauge
The leaflet states 28 stitches and 36 rows to 10 cm on 3.25 mm needles, without naming the gauge stitch.
Check a washed and blocked swatch before beginning. Adjust needle size to match stitch and row gauge, and check the fabric suits the project. Allow extra yarn for swatching.
