Jessie Jacket & Hat Knitting Pattern - 8 Ply
A baby jacket and matching hat with garter-stitch detail, sized from approximately 0–3 months to 3 years.

Construction
The jacket back, fronts and sleeves are worked flat as separate pieces, then sewn together. The matching hat is worked flat and seamed.
Yarn choices
Use DK/8ply yarn, worked with a single strand. Touch Yarns NZ Merino 8ply is an original designer-recommended yarn for this pattern. The metre allowances below come from the original pattern; use metres when choosing yarn and check your tension.

Hat sizes and yarn
The hat measurements listed in the pattern are 35, 40, 45, 48 and 50 cm; the largest is labelled 2–3 years. Allow an additional 100 m for a hat. Hat sizes are listed separately from jacket sizes.
Metre allowances are approximate. Where the original gives purchasing quantities rather than used metres, these have been converted using its stated yarn length. Swatch, wash and block before starting; allow extra for length changes and differences in tension.
Tension
22 stitches and 30 rows to 10 cm in stocking stitch on 4 mm needles.
Needles and notions
4 mm needles, 2 stitch holders, a stitch marker and buttons. Check the button layout for your chosen size before selecting the number required.
Before you begin
You will use knit and purl stitches, shaping, holding stitches and seaming. Read the finishing instructions before starting. The jacket also includes buttonholes.
