Baby Jacket & Beanie Crochet Pattern – K3059
Puff stitch detail and contrast crab stitch edges bring texture to this baby jacket and matching beanie. Naturally K3059 uses Amano Duna 4ply, a cotton and alpaca blend, with ties at the jacket neckline.
Construction and skills
The jacket body is crocheted flat from the bottom up to the underarms. Separate sleeves are joined to the body for the raglan yoke, with seams closed during finishing. The beanie is worked from the crown down in joined rounds, with a puff stitch band and a crocheted, stuffed pompom.
Suggested skill level: intermediate. Techniques include treble crochet, post stitches, puff stitches, shaping, working in joined rounds, crab stitch and finishing seams. British crochet terminology is used.
Sizes and measurements
Ages are a guide. The PDF lists the following chest sizes, back lengths and sleeve lengths in centimetres; it does not distinguish body chest from finished chest or give finished beanie measurements.
| Age | Listed chest size (cm) | Back length (cm) | Sleeve length (cm) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3–6 months | 40 | 26 | 12.5 |
| 12–18 months | 45 | 29 | 15 |
| 24 months | 50 | 33 | 18 |
Yarn requirements
Amano Duna 4ply: 200 m per 50 g hank; 60% organic cotton and 40% alpaca. These approximate allowances are for the jacket and beanie together, worked with one strand. The sample uses main colour #2604 and contrast colour #2600.
| Age | Main colour (m) | Contrast colour (m) | Total (m) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3–6 months | 400 | 200 | 600 |
| 12–18 months | 600 | 200 | 800 |
| 24 months | 600 | 200 | 800 |
Hooks, notions and tension
- 3 mm main crochet hook.
- 2.75 mm crochet hook for edging, beanie and pompom.
- 6 stitch markers and a tapestry needle.
- A small amount of polyester toy stuffing for the crocheted pompom.
Target tension: 23 treble stitches and 12 rows over 10 cm. Use the confirmed 3 mm main hook as your starting point, then check a washed and dried swatch and adjust if necessary to achieve tension.
Pattern clarification
Wild & Woolly clarification: use a 3 mm main hook and sleeve lengths of 12.5, 15 and 18 cm for the three sizes, following the measurement table. These replace the conflicting 3.25 mm hook reference in the tension line and the longer sleeve lengths in the sleeve instructions. The original PDF has not been amended.
