Summer Romper and Hat Knitting Pattern – K3088
A striped baby romper with buttoned bib straps and a matching brimmed hat, designed in AMANO Duna 4ply. Naturally K3088 includes four sizes from newborn to 18 months. The sample uses light blue 2622 and light green 2621.
Construction and skills
The romper is knitted flat from the crotch upwards in separate back and front pieces, with shaped leg openings, two-row stripes and a ribbed bib. Garter stitch straps continue from the back. After joining the side seams, leg bands and crotch bands are picked up; buttons fasten the straps and crotch opening.
The hat is knitted flat from a ribbed lower edge to its shaped crown, with four-row stripes. The brim is picked up from the cast-on edge and worked outwards, then the back seam is joined.
Suggested skill level: intermediate. Techniques include stocking stitch, ribbing, garter stitch, stripe changes, increases and decreases, picking up stitches, buttonholes and seaming.
Sizes and finished measurements
Choose by chest measurement; ages are approximate. All measurements below are in centimetres. Romper length includes the straps.
| Age | To fit chest | Finished chest | Length to shoulder |
|---|---|---|---|
| Newborn | 36 | 39 | 28 |
| 3 months | 41 | 44 | 31 |
| 6–9 months | 46 | 50 | 35 |
| 12–18 months | 51 | 55 | 39 |
The hat follows the same four-size sequence. The PDF does not supply finished hat circumferences.

Tension
28 stitches and 36 rows over 10 cm in stocking stitch on 3.25 mm needles. Wash and dry a swatch before measuring; adjust needle size to achieve tension.

- 2.75 mm, 3 mm and 3.25 mm knitting needles.
- Stitch holder.
- 5 buttons for every size: 2 bib buttons and 3 crotch buttons.
- Tapestry needle for finishing.
Pattern clarification
Use 5 buttons for every size, matching the two bib buttonholes and three crotch buttonholes. Sew 3 buttons to the front crotch button band. This replaces the conflicting button quantities and finishing count in the original PDF; the PDF itself is unchanged.
