Garter Stitch Vest and Hat Knitting Pattern – K432
A cosy matching vest and hat in garter stitch, sized from newborn to four years. The buttoned vest is easy to layer, and the hat combines a ribbed brim with a shaped garter-stitch crown.
Pattern Format: 📥📬 Available as Digital Download or Printed Copy (choose option below). This is a Naturally knitting pattern; yarn, needles and the finished item are not included.
Construction and Skill Guidance
The vest is worked flat as a back and two fronts, with integral front bands and separately extended neckband sections. Join the shoulder and side seams and finish the neckband. The hat is knitted flat, shaped at the crown and closed with a back seam. The pattern includes options for placing the buttonholes on either front.
Suggested skill level: Intermediate. The stitch texture is simple, but the project also includes armhole and neck shaping, held stitches, buttonholes, neckband joins and seaming.

Work with a single strand. Metreages are approximate yarn allowances converted from the original pattern quantities, rather than measured consumption. Allow extra for swatching or changes in size. Check a washed and dried swatch before starting.
For yarn help, you can also view Naturally New Zealand Merino 8ply. This is a different yarn with 138 m per 50 g; the table above uses the original Lammermoor allowance. Match the garter-stitch tension and compare the washed fabric before using a different yarn.
