Knit a cheerful, coordinated jacket and hat set for babies from newborn to 18 months. Designed in three colours of 4ply yarn, this sweet set combines stocking stitch with moss-stitch borders and contrast stripes for a cosy, practical finish.

Construction Overview
The jacket is worked flat in separate back, front and sleeve pieces. The moss-stitch front bands are worked as part of the fronts, with shaping for the armholes, shoulders and set-in sleeve caps. After the shoulder seams are joined, stitches are picked up for the neckband before the sleeves are set in and the remaining seams are completed. The hat is worked flat from the brim upwards, shaped with crown decreases, then seamed.
Skill Level
Intermediate. You’ll work stocking stitch and moss stitch, follow a three-colour stripe sequence, shape armholes and sleeve caps, make buttonholes, pick up stitches and complete seaming.

Yarn Requirements
The pattern was designed for Naturally Waikiwi 4ply (181m per 50g), a blend of 55% New Zealand merino, 20% nylon, 15% alpaca and 10% possum. A suitable current alternative is Naturally New Zealand Merino 4ply; always check your tension and allow extra yarn for swatching.

You’ll Need
- 2.75mm straight needles
- 3.25mm straight needles

- 4 buttons; the sample uses Incomparable button L527
- Tapestry needle for seaming and finishing
Tension
28 stitches and 36 rows to 10cm in stocking stitch using 3.25mm needles. Check your tension before beginning and change needle size if needed.
