Raglan Cardigan with Hood Knitting Pattern – K423

A little hooded cardigan with raglan shaping, garter-stitch edging and a buttoned front. The original self-patterning yarn adds colour interest while you knit simple stocking stitch.

Pattern Format: 📥📬 Available as Digital Download or Printed Copy (choose option below). This is a Naturally knitting pattern; yarn, needles and the finished item are not included.

Construction and Skill Guidance

Work the sleeves first and place them on hold. The body is worked flat in one piece to the underarms, then joined with the sleeves for the raglan yoke. Front bands and a shaped, seamed hood complete the cardigan; sleeve and underarm seams are required.

Suggested skill level: Intermediate. You’ll join held stitches into the yoke, work raglan decreases and buttonholes, pick up stitches and sew the hood seam.

Sizing and Measurements

Four sizes, from newborn to approximately 12–18 months. Choose by measurements rather than age alone.

Yarn Requirements

Work with a single strand. Metreages are approximate yarn allowances converted from the original pattern quantities, rather than measured consumption. Allow extra for swatching or changes in size. Check a washed and dried swatch before starting.

With self-patterning yarn, start each new length from the same end of the ball for consistency. The colour pattern varies with garment size.

You’ll Need

  • 2.75mm and 3.25mm straight needles
  • 3.25mm circular needle, 80cm long, used back and forth to hold the yoke stitches
  • Stitch holder and markers for the raglan joins
  • 4 (4, 5, 5) buttons, in size order
  • Yarn needle for finishing

Tension

28 stitches and 36 rows to 10cm in stocking stitch on 3.25mm needles.
