A richly textured children's sweater with a statement 30-stitch cable panel through the centre front and back. Choose the lighter 4ply version or the classic DK/8ply version for ages two to eight years.

Yarn requirements
Work with one strand. Loyal 4ply is the original lighter yarn at 140 m per 50 g (discontinued). The DK version uses Naturally Loyal DK/8ply at 105 m per 50 g.

Construction and skill level
The back, front and sleeves are knitted flat. Six stitches are cast on within the foundation row to form the raised base of the centre cable and are secured during finishing. The neckband is picked up after one shoulder is joined, then the sweater is seamed. An intermediate cable project requiring chart or written-pattern concentration, shaping, picking up stitches and mattress stitch.
Needles, notions and gauge
- 4ply: 3 mm and 3.25 mm straight needles; 28 stitches and 36 rows to 10 cm in stocking stitch on 3.25 mm needles
- DK/8ply: 3.75 mm and 4 mm straight needles; 22 stitches and 30 rows to 10 cm in stocking stitch on 4 mm needles
