A simple, useful children's vest knitted entirely in garter stitch, with a classic V-neck and comfortable ease. Instructions are included for both 4ply and DK/8ply from ages two to eight years.

Yarn requirements
Work with one strand. Loyal 4ply is the original lighter yarn at 140 m per 50 g (discontinued). The DK version uses Naturally Loyal DK/8ply at 105 m per 50 g.

Construction and skill level
The back and front are knitted flat in garter stitch. The front divides at the V-neck, with simple decreases shaping the armholes and neckline before the shoulder and side seams are joined. A good confident-beginner garment project for practising shaping and tidy seaming.
Needles, notions and gauge
- 4ply: 3.25 mm straight needles; 27 stitches to 10 cm in garter stitch
- DK/8ply: 4 mm straight needles; 21 stitches to 10 cm in garter stitch
