Vest Knitting Pattern – Naturally N1527
This relaxed V-neck vest has a soft, easy silhouette with wide shoulders that create a cap-sleeve effect when worn. A deep V-neck, broad garter-stitch upper section and ribbed lower edge give the garment a simple, modern shape that works well as a lightweight layering piece.
The vest is knitted flat from the bottom up in two main pieces – a back and front. Both pieces begin with a 2 x 2 ribbed lower band before continuing in stocking stitch. At the upper body, the fabric changes to garter stitch, creating the textured shoulder and neckline section seen in the finished garment.
There is no traditional armhole or sleeve-cap shaping. Instead, the shoulders extend beyond the natural shoulder line to form a relaxed drop-shoulder/cap-sleeve shape. After the shoulder seams are joined, stitches are picked up around each arm opening and worked in rib to create structured armhole bands.
The front is divided to form the V-neck. A garter-stitch neck extension continues from one side of the front and is worked to fit across the back neck before being joined or grafted in place, giving the neckline a clean continuous finish.
