Novice Cardigan – Mohair Edition
The PetiteKnit Novice Cardigan – Mohair Edition is a beginner-friendly women’s cardigan knitting pattern worked from the top down. Two strands of silk mohair are held together to create an exceptionally light, soft fabric with a beautiful halo.
Description and construction
Knitting begins with the ribbed neckline before the round yoke is shaped with four evenly spaced sets of increases. The body is then worked back and forth in stocking stitch, followed by sleeves worked in the round. Ribbed bands finish the neckline, fronts, hem and cuffs.

Wild & Woolly yarn options
Choose one of the following yarn options. They are alternatives, not yarns to use together.
Option 1: Sandnes Garn Tynn Silk Mohair – two strands held together
Sandnes Garn Tynn Silk Mohair is one of PetiteKnit’s original recommendations and gives the intended light, airy fabric and soft mohair halo.
| Size | Total Tynn Silk Mohair required |
|---|---|
| XS | 1,696 m |
| S | 1,696–1,908 m |
| M | 1,908 m |

Yarn substitution guidance
Metre requirements are based on PetiteKnit’s stated quantities. Buy complete balls and allow extra for swatching, fit or length adjustments, gauge differences and natural variation. Because the two yarn options create different fabrics, work and wash a generous swatch before beginning. Your blocked swatch must match the pattern gauge and produce a fabric you are happy to wear.
