Jacket, Hat & Booties
Knitting Pattern – Naturally K615
This classic baby knitting pattern includes a button-front jacket, matching hat and booties, creating a practical three-piece set for babies with chest sizes from 35–50 cm.
The jacket has a traditional straight silhouette with garter stitch borders, stocking stitch body and neatly integrated garter stitch front bands. It is knitted flat from the bottom up in separate back and front pieces. The body is worked straight to the underarms, where a small number of stitches are cast off to create a shallow, squared armhole rather than raglan shaping. The shoulders are straight, giving the jacket a simple, comfortable structure that is particularly well suited to baby garments.
The sleeves are worked separately from the cuff upwards, increasing gradually to create their width. They do not have a shaped sleeve cap; instead, the top edge is cast off straight and sewn into the shallow armhole opening. This creates a relaxed modified set-in/drop-shoulder construction, with less shaping than a traditional set-in sleeve and no raglan seam. The pattern also offers an attractive alternating stocking stitch and garter stitch sleeve texture, although the photographed version shows the sleeves worked entirely in stocking stitch.
The jacket is finished with a round ribbed neckline, while the six garter-stitch stitches at each front edge continue into the neckband for a neat, cohesive finish. Buttonholes are worked directly into the right front band.
The coordinating hat is knitted flat from the brim upwards, with a ribbed brim, stocking stitch body and shaped crown before being seamed. The booties are also knitted flat, beginning at the sole with increases for shaping, followed by the foot and a turned ribbed cuff.
The pattern provides instructions for both 4 ply and DK / 8 ply yarn, making it particularly versatile for different seasons and yarn choices.
