Knit a relaxed men’s half-zip sweater with a folded rib collar. The Zipper Sweater Light Man by PetiteKnit is an everyday layer with thoughtful finishing details.
Description and construction
Worked from the top down, the sweater starts with a ribbed collar that is folded double and knitted together. Raglan increases shape the yoke, which begins in rows to leave the zip opening, then joins for knitting in the round. The body and sleeves continue in the round. A knitted inner facing encloses the zip between two layers; sew it in by hand or machine.

Choosing your size
Measure around the widest part of the upper body and compare this with the finished chest circumference. The intended fit includes approximately 20 cm of extra room. For example, a 103 cm chest in size L gives 24 cm of ease.
Gauge and needles
Gauge: 20 stitches × 28 rows over 10 × 10 cm in stocking stitch, after washing and blocking, using 4 mm needles.
- 3 mm circular needle, 80 cm.
- 3.5 mm circular needle, 80 cm.
- 4 mm circular needles, 40 cm and 80 and/or 100 cm.
- 3.5 mm and 4 mm double-pointed needles, or use Magic Loop.

Wild & Woolly yarn options
Choose one yarn option. Sandnes Garn Peer Gynt is stocked at Wild & Woolly and is the original yarn specified for this design. Use the original requirements above.
Sandnes Garn Double Sunday is a softer, non-superwash merino alternative to consider, worked single-stranded. Its stated gauge range includes 20 stitches per 10 cm. It will give a different fabric from Norwegian wool, so check both the washed stitch and row gauge, drape and collar stability before committing.
Double Sunday quantities have not been tested for this pattern. Ask us for help planning your yarn before ordering a substitution.
Complete your project
Add a compatible PetiteKnit 35 cm zip in Dove Grey, or choose Navy, Chocolate Brown, Sand or Black to suit your yarn.
KnitPro Zing interchangeable needle tips include the suggested 3 mm, 3.5 mm and 4 mm sizes. Pair them with compatible cables for the required circular lengths; tips and cables are purchased separately.
Before you cast on
Wash and block a tension swatch before choosing your needle size. Yarn substitutions can change consumption and fit; extra yarn may be needed for swatching, added length or other adjustments. Purchase complete balls and check the pattern before starting.
