Equivalent-metre planning estimates, not tested substitute consumption: the main-yarn estimates preserve the designer’s original main-strand allowance at 125 m per 50 g. Where mohair is used, its separate allowance is converted at 212 m per 25 g. A single thicker yarn uses the main-strand length estimate only; do not add the mohair length to it. Choose one complete option, round up to complete sale units and allow extra for swatching, gauge differences or changes in length.

These are Wild & Woolly shop alternatives. Wash and block a generous swatch and match 16 stitches × 21 rows per 10 × 10 cm in stocking stitch, checking drape and fit. Start with the pattern’s 6 mm needles and adjust as needed; the yarn’s ply label alone does not confirm the gauge.

Frequently asked questions

How is the regular Novice yoke shaped?

It is a round yoke, shaped with increases on four rounds spread along the yoke, rather than raglan lines.

Can I use the Mohair Edition’s gauge and quantities?

No. This regular version uses 16 stitches × 21 rows on 6 mm needles, while the Mohair Edition uses a finer gauge and different quantities.

Are the 12ply and 10ply yarns used together?

No. Choose either one strand of New Zealand Merino 12ply alone, or one strand of a 10ply yarn with one strand of 2ply mohair. The two option tables are separate purchases.
