A matching winter set for children aged approximately 8–14 years: a textured hat, a patterned scarf with fringe and fingerless gloves. Knit one piece or make the full set.
Construction and skill guidance
All three projects are knitted flat. The hat is worked from the ribbed brim upwards, with crown shaping and a back seam. The scarf uses a knit-and-purl texture. The gloves are worked from the cuffs and seamed, leaving thumb openings. Intermediate: stitch repeats, shaping and neat finishing.
Sizes and measurements
Choose the hat by head measurement. Scarf and glove measurements are approximate; the leaflet does not provide a glove hand circumference.

Approved replacement yarn
African Expressions Harmony 10ply, approximately 87 m per 50 g. Use one strand. This is an approved alternative, subject to matching the pattern gauge.

Equivalent-metre estimates use the leaflet’s original quantities converted at 84 m per 50 g. Each column is for that project; add the columns if making the full set. Round up separately where different colours are used and allow extra yarn for swatching.
Gauge: check before choosing needles
The pattern requires 20 stitches and 26 rows to 10 cm in stocking stitch on 4.50 mm needles. Harmony’s label gauge is 18 stitches and 23 rows to 10 cm. A yarn-weight match does not guarantee a gauge match: wash and block a swatch, then adjust needles to obtain the pattern’s 20-stitch and 26-row gauge. The resulting fabric may be firmer than Harmony’s label-gauge fabric. Check that you like it before starting.
