Construction
Worked flat in a repeating chevron pattern, with garter-stitch borders and regular colour changes.
Yarn choices
Use 4ply yarn, worked with a single strand. New Zealand Merino 4ply is a stocked option to swatch at the stated tension. The quantities below are in metres, based on the original pattern; allow extra for changes in length or tension.

Metre allowances are approximate. Where the original gives purchasing quantities rather than used metres, these have been converted using its stated yarn length. Swatch, wash and block before starting; allow extra for length changes and differences in tension.
Tension
Approximately 30 rows to 10 cm; the original pattern does not state a stitch tension.
Needles and notions
3.5 mm needles, or 3.25 mm if needed for your tension, and a wool needle for weaving in colour-change ends.

Frequently asked questions
Do both colour versions need the same yarn quantities?
No. The three-colour version has a separate allowance for each of three colours; the two-colour version needs 450 m of each colour in both sizes.
