Construction
The back, fronts and sleeves are worked flat as separate pieces, then sewn together.
Yarn choices
The pattern calls for 5ply or a fuller 4ply, and also names a lightweight possum blend as an option. Touch Yarns Possum, Merino, Silk Ultrafine 8ply is a stocked lightweight option to swatch at 24 stitches to 10 cm. Standard 8ply is not automatically interchangeable. Metre allowances are converted from the original 167 m yarn basis.

Metre allowances are approximate. Where the original gives purchasing quantities rather than used metres, these have been converted using its stated yarn length. Swatch, wash and block before starting; allow extra for length changes and differences in tension.
Tension
24 stitches and 32 rows to 10 cm.
Needles and notions
3.75 mm needles, 2 stitch holders, a stitch marker and 3 or more buttons to suit the chosen fastening.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use any 8ply yarn for Maddison?
No. This design has a finer 24-stitch tension. The original lightweight 8ply option is not the same thickness as every standard DK yarn; make a washed and blocked swatch first.
