'Tastefully Vintage' Babies Blanket

I get a lot of vintage knitting patterns gifted to me, and occasionally we give the patterns a new breath of life. We have taken the inspiration for this baby blanket from a Paton’s and Baldwin knitting book from the early 1950’s. The original version was for a ‘kicking bag’ (two identical pieces joined together like a sleeping bag) with your ‘precious bundle’ held in place with a drawstring ribbon securely fastened around the infant’s neck. Maybe not such a good idea!

This vintage Baby Blanket ( one side of knitting) comprises of alternating squares of stocking and garter stitch, with a moss stitch border. Knitted using 5 balls of 4ply Baby Alpaca, it's the simplicity of the knitting and the luxury of the alpaca wool that makes this blanket one of our most popular, timeless knits. The blanket in our main photograph uses shade Very Very Faded Lilac and in the smaller we used shade Duck Egg Blue.
