Knit a baby cardigan with a patterned lower border and your choice of two matching hat styles. The Kiwi Stitch & Knit Co pattern is worked in 4ply yarn, and the kit supplies yarn for the cardigan plus one hat in your selected size.
About the pattern
Work the cardigan fronts and back together from the lower edge to the armholes, then finish the upper sections separately. Join the shoulders with a three-needle bind-off. The sleeves are knitted flat and sewn in. Both hat styles are worked flat and seamed; Style B has a fold-back band. The cardigan needs two buttons and has no separately knitted neckband.

The kit size options group Newborn with 0–3 months, and 6–9 with 9–12 and 12–18 months because each group receives the same number of balls. Choose the pattern size using the finished chest measurement. Allow extra yarn if you lengthen the garment.
Yarn supplied
New Zealand Merino 4ply, listed on this kit as Naturally Baby Haven, is 100% New Zealand merino and supplies approximately 178 metres per 50 g ball. The source pattern specifies 4ply yarn at 175 metres per 50 g ball. Use one strand throughout. The smaller kit option supplies three balls and the larger option four balls, covering the cardigan and one hat.
Tension, needles and notions
Target tension is 28 stitches and 36 rows to 10 cm. The pattern calls for 3 mm, 3.25 mm and 3.5 mm needles. You will also need four stitch holders, stitch markers and a tapestry needle. Check tension and change needle size if needed.
