Autumn Leaves Blanket Knitting Pattern - 8 Ply
A leaf-lace blanket with seed-stitch framing, offered as a light baby blanket, a DK baby blanket or a chunky throw.
Designer: The Kiwi Stitch & Knit Co. This purchase is a knitting pattern; yarn, needles, accessories and finished items are not included.
Construction
Worked flat. The central leaf panel has both a chart and written instructions.
Yarn choices
The original light sample uses Touch Yarns Possum, Merino, Silk Ultrafine 8ply; the regular 8ply sample uses Touch Yarns NZ Merino 8ply. Quantities follow the explicit metre allowances in the original PDF. The 770 m throw allowance is for a single chunky strand. If substituting two lighter strands held together, allow approximately 770 m of each strand (1,540 m combined), then verify with a swatch.
Sizes and yarn requirements
| Version | Size (cm) | Yarn (m) | Needles (mm) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ultrafine 8ply baby blanket | 60 × 80 | 650 | 3.75 |
| Regular 8ply baby blanket | 65 × 80 | 600 | 4 |
| Chunky throw | 92 × 120 | 770 | 8 |
Metre allowances are approximate. Where the original gives purchasing quantities rather than used metres, these have been converted using its stated yarn length. Swatch, wash and block before starting; allow extra for length changes and differences in tension.
Tension
Stocking stitch: ultrafine version, 26 stitches and 34 rows to 10 cm; regular 8ply, 22 stitches and 30 rows; chunky throw, 12 stitches and 15 rows.

Frequently asked questions
Does 770 m cover both strands when knitting the throw held double?
No. That allowance is for one chunky strand. A two-strand substitute needs approximately 770 m per strand, subject to matching the tension and fabric.
