Choose to knit baby bloomers or shorts from Naturally pattern K428 in Sesia Mistral Baby Print Merino 4ply. Both styles have a soft ribbed waistband; the shorts have separate little legs, while the bloomers have shaped leg openings and ribbed bands.
Choose your style and size
The kit supplies the amount needed for one garment in your chosen size: either bloomers or shorts. The pattern includes both sets of instructions. Size using the finished waist as well as the approximate age.

The 3 months and 6–9 months Shopify options share a two-ball kit quantity. The larger three-ball kit covers the shorts at 12–18 months; you may have yarn left if making bloomers.
Yarn and tension
Sesia Mistral Baby Print Merino 4ply is 100% extrafine merino wool. Each 50 g ball supplies approximately 175 metres. Work one strand. The pattern tension is 28 stitches and 36 rows to 10 cm in stocking stitch on 3.25 mm needles; use that target even though the yarn label gives a different general gauge.
Needles and finishing
You need 2.75 mm and 3.25 mm straight needles, stitch holders, a tapestry needle and waist elastic cut to the required length. Both bloomers and shorts use an elasticated waistband. Work the pieces flat, sew the seams and fold the waistband over the elastic as directed in the pattern. Needles, stitch holders and elastic are not included.
