Gauge, needles and accessories
Gauge: 21 stitches × 30 rows in stocking stitch on 4 mm needles, after washing and blocking = 10 × 10 cm. Wash and block a swatch before starting, and adjust needle size to achieve the pattern gauge.
Needles: 4 mm circular needles (40, 60, 80 and/or 100 cm) and 4 mm double-pointed needles, or Magic Loop.
Wild & Woolly yarn options
Choose one of the following shop-approved alternatives and knit with two strands of that yarn held together throughout:
- Naturally Pacific Lace 2ply — mohair and silk.
- African Expressions Hope 2ply Mohair — kid mohair and polyamide.
- Sandnes Garn Tynn Silk Mohair — mohair, silk and wool.
These options are used separately, not mixed together. Their fibre blends differ, so wash and block a swatch with two strands of your chosen yarn and check both the pattern gauge and the feel of the fabric.
Estimated yarn requirements
The table applies to any of the three options and gives the total metres for both strands combined. Do not double these amounts again.
| Size | Total yarn for both strands (m) |
|---|---|
| XXS | 1470 |
| XS | 1470 |
| S | 1470–1680 |
| M | 1680 |
| L | 1680 |
| XL | 1680–1890 |

These are equivalent-metre estimates based on the designer’s 210-metres-per-25-g mohair allowance, not confirmed consumption for these substitutes. Naturally Pacific Lace supplies 200 metres per 25 g; African Expressions Hope and Sandnes Garn Tynn Silk Mohair each supply 212 metres per 25 g. Round up to whole sale units when purchasing and allow for swatching or extra length.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Bea Blouse shaped with raglan increases from the very beginning?
The boat neckline and raised back are shaped first with short rows. Sleeve increases are followed by raglan increases, and the body is then worked in the round.
Is Bea Blouse intended to fit loosely?
No. It is designed with approximately 2 cm of negative ease. Check the washed swatch and finished bust measurements rather than adding the extra room you would choose for an oversized sweater.
