Summer Lace Dress for Girls Knitting Pattern – K3029

A cotton dress with a lace skirt, contrast garter-stitch trims and a single-button back opening. Naturally K3029 includes seven sizes from approximately 3–6 months to four years.

Construction and skill guidance

The dress is knitted from the top down. The raglan bodice is worked back and forth to the armhole division, leaving an opening at the centre back. The sleeves are held while the body is joined to work the lace skirt in the round; the sleeve edges are finished separately in the contrast colour.

Suggested skill level: Intermediate. You’ll use raglan increases, lace yarn overs and decreases, holding stitches, knitting in the round and a button-loop finish.

Sizes and fit

Choose by chest measurement; ages are approximate. The original materials table gives body chest sizes rather than finished garment measurements.

Approx. age To fit chest (cm)
3–6 months 45
6–12 months 48
12–18 months 52
18–24 months 55
2 years 57

Yarn requirements

Use Sesia Bio Sunny DK/8ply, the original recommended cotton yarn, with a single strand at a time. Choose a main colour A and contrast colour B. The stated length is 125 m per 50 g.

Approx. age Colour A (m) Colour B (m)
3–6 months 250 125
6–12 months 375 125
12–18 months 375 125

Metreages are approximate purchasing allowances converted from the original pattern quantities using the stated yarn length, rather than measured consumption. Allow extra for swatching or changes in length. Wash and block a swatch before starting and check the pattern tension.

Tension

24 stitches and 30 rows to 10 cm in stocking stitch on 3.75 mm needles. Follow the pattern tension rather than the yarn’s general label guidance.

Needles and notions

  • 3.25 mm and 3.75 mm circular needles with a 60 cm cord
  • Double-pointed needles may be needed for the sleeve edges
  • 4 stitch markers
  • Waste yarn to hold sleeve stitches
  • 1 button
  • Tapestry needle for finishing

Frequently asked questions

Is the whole dress knitted in the round?

No. The bodice is worked flat to create the back opening, then the skirt is joined and worked in the round.

Are both colours held together?

No. Use one strand at a time, changing between the main colour and contrast trims. The table gives a separate allowance for each colour.
