Raglan Jumper for Children Knitting Pattern – K3077

Two colours meet in a short stripe sequence across this stocking stitch raglan jumper. Naturally K3077 uses Chaska Wara DK/8ply, with ribbed cuffs, hem and neckband. The sample uses colour 1 shade 619 and colour 2 shade 617.

Construction and skills

The jumper is knitted flat from the bottom up in four pieces: back, front and two sleeves. After joining the raglan seams, the neckband is worked in the round from held and picked-up stitches. The side and sleeve seams are sewn, matching the colour changes.

Suggested skill level: intermediate. Techniques include two-by-two ribbing, colour changes, increases, raglan and neck shaping, holding stitches, picking up stitches, circular ribbing and seaming. Read the sleeve instructions carefully, as the colour sequence and sleeve shaping are worked at the same time.

Sizes and finished measurements

Choose by chest measurement and your preferred ease; ages are a guide. The PDF gives the following body and finished chest measurements.

Age (years) To fit chest (cm) Finished chest (cm)
2 55 63
4 60 68
6 65 75
8 70 80
10 75 87

The instructions give sleeve lengths to the start of raglan shaping of 23, 28, 33, 38 and 40 cm respectively. No full finished body length is supplied.

22 stitches and 26 rows over 10 cm in stocking stitch on 4 mm needles. Make a swatch, wash and dry it before measuring, and adjust needle size if needed to match the pattern tension.

Needles and notions

  • 3.25 mm and 4 mm straight knitting needles.
  • A set of 3.25 mm double-pointed needles for the neckband.
  • 4 stitch holders or waste yarn for held stitches.
  • Tapestry needle for seaming and finishing.

Pattern clarification

Wild & Woolly clarification: for the 8-year size, pick up 18 stitches along the right side of the front neck for the neckband, matching the left side. This replaces the printed value of 1 stitch. The original PDF has not been amended.

Frequently asked questions

Is the whole jumper worked in the round?

No. The body and sleeves are knitted flat in separate pieces. Only the picked-up neckband is worked in the round.

Which colour forms the top of the jumper?

The lower body and sleeves begin in colour 1. A short two-colour stripe sequence leads into colour 2 for the upper sections; the neckband returns to colour 1.

Do I need to buy yarn for both colours?

Yes. Each row shows the separate colour 1 and colour 2 allowances, plus the combined total for one jumper.
