Garter Stitch & Stocking Stitch Jacket & Hat – K3079
Garter stitch lower panels meet a smooth stocking stitch upper body in this baby and toddler jacket. Naturally K3079 includes a coordinating hat with garter ridges, both worked in Opal Aquarell 4ply. The samples use shades 11530 and 11536.

Construction and skills
The jacket back, fronts and sleeves are knitted flat from the bottom up and sewn together. Short ribbed button bands are picked up along the upper fronts, followed by a garter stitch neckband. The hat is knitted flat from a ribbed brim, shaped at the crown and seamed at the back.
Suggested skill level: confident beginner, comfortable with shaping, picking up stitches, buttonholes and seaming. Techniques include garter stitch, stocking stitch, ribbing, increases and decreases.

Yarn requirements
Use Opal Aquarell 4ply, worked with one strand. Approximate allowances below cover the jacket and hat together, calculated at 425 m per 100 g.

Tension
28 stitches and 36 rows over 10 cm in stocking stitch on 3.25 mm needles. Wash and dry a swatch before measuring, and adjust needle size as needed to match the pattern tension.

No. The picked-up ribbed button bands run along the upper stocking stitch section, above the garter stitch lower panels.
