Patterned Baby & Toddler Vest Knitting Pattern – K3080
A four-row knit-and-purl texture gives this sleeveless vest interest without changing yarn colours. Naturally K3080 uses Opal Aquarell 4ply, photographed in shades 11531 and 11532, with a ribbed neckline and a single button tab at the front.

Construction and skills
The body is knitted flat in one piece to the underarms, then divided for the fronts and back. Stitches are added at the armhole edges to form short shoulder extensions. The shoulders and underarms are joined, the neckband is worked from held and picked-up stitches, and the button tab is knitted separately and sewn in place.
Skill level: confident beginner. Be comfortable with a written knit-and-purl repeat, shaping, holding stitches, picking up stitches, ribbing, a buttonhole and seaming.

Use Opal Aquarell 4ply, worked with a single strand. Approximate allowances below cover one vest, calculated at 425 m per 100 g.

Tension
28 stitches and 36 rows over 10 cm in stocking stitch on 3.25 mm needles. Wash and dry a swatch before measuring and adjust needle size to match the pattern tension.

- 3 mm and 3.25 mm knitting needles.
- Stitch holders and markers.
- 1 button.
- Tapestry needle for seams and attaching the tab.
Pattern clarification
Wild & Woolly clarification: cast on 13, 14, 15, 17, 17 and 17 stitches for the button tab in sizes Newborn, 3 months, 6–9 months, 12–18 months, 2–3 years and 3–4 years respectively. Use 17 stitches for each of the two largest sizes omitted from the tab's original four-value sequence. The original PDF has not been amended.

No. It is worked flat, beginning with the body in one piece to the underarms, then completing the fronts and back separately.
Does the texture require cables?
No. The repeating texture uses knit and purl stitches.
