Baby Sweater & Hat Knitting Pattern – K3081
A shaped garter stitch collar gives this stocking stitch baby sweater a distinctive neckline. Naturally K3081 includes a matching rib-brimmed hat and uses Opal Aquarell 4ply. The samples are photographed in shades 11537 and 11533.
Construction and skills
The sweater is knitted flat from the bottom up in separate back, front and sleeve pieces. The collar is knitted separately with increases and decreases, then sewn around the neckline with its ends overlapping at the front. The hat is worked flat from the brim up and seamed at the back.
Suggested skill level: intermediate. Be comfortable with ribbing, stocking stitch, garment shaping, measuring and matching the collar halves, and seaming.

Yarn requirements
Use Opal Aquarell 4ply, worked with a single strand. These approximate allowances cover the sweater and hat together, calculated at 425 m per 100 g.

The colour pattern changes with garment size and where you start in the yarn. Follow the PDF's advice to work consistently from either the inside or outside of each ball.
Tension
28 stitches and 36 rows over 10 cm in stocking stitch on 3.25 mm needles. Wash and dry a swatch before measuring, and adjust needle size to match the pattern tension.
