Gauge, needles and materials
Gauge: 30 stitches × 40 rows in stocking stitch on 2.5 mm needles = 10 × 10 cm.
Needles: 2.5 mm double-pointed needles, or a 2.5 mm / 60 or 80 cm circular needle for Magic Loop.

Choose a suitable 4ply sock yarn, knitted with one strand on its own. Match the pattern’s washed and blocked gauge and check the fabric before starting.

Calculated from the original pair-of-socks quantities of 49, 53, 55, 56 and 58 g at 210 m per 50 g, rounded up to whole metres. Use the metre allowance rather than copying the original yarn weights, as sale-unit lengths differ.
Wash and block a swatch before measuring; match stitch and row gauge and adjust needle size as needed. Round up to complete sale units and allow extra for swatching or changes in length.
Frequently asked questions
Are the metre estimates for one sock or the pair?
They are the combined allowance for two socks. For EU 39/40, the estimate is 231 m for the pair; do not double it again.
What kind of heel does Ruffle Socks use?
The heel is shaped with short rows, rather than a heel flap. The pattern is worked from the cuff towards the toe.
Can I use any thickness of sock yarn?
Choose a 4ply sock yarn that gives 30 stitches × 40 rows per 10 × 10 cm after washing and blocking. A yarn being labelled for socks does not make a thicker 6ply yarn interchangeable.
