Sweater with Shaped Lower Edge – Naturally K3040
A stocking-stitch sweater with a shaped lower edge, garter-stitch hem and cuffs, and a ribbed crew neck. Chaska Alpaca Air gives the fabric a light, brushed texture. The back, front and sleeves are knitted flat from the bottom up, then sewn together. Wrap-and-turn short rows shape the lower body.

16 stitches × 22 rows over 10 cm in stocking stitch on 5.50 mm needles. Wash and dry a swatch before measuring and adjust needle size to match the stated tension.

- 5.00 mm and 5.50 mm straight knitting needles.
- Stitch holders and a tapestry needle for sewing up.
Skills and preparation
This is an intermediate project using wrap-and-turn short rows, increases, decreases, armhole and sleeve-cap shaping, picking up stitches, ribbing and seaming. The pattern explains wrap and turn. Check centre-body measurements carefully because the lower edge is shaped.

Frequently asked questions
How is the lower edge shaped?
Wrap-and-turn short rows create the shape before you continue across all the body stitches in stocking stitch.
Is the sweater seamless?
No. The front, back and sleeves are worked flat. Shoulder, side and sleeve seams are sewn, and the sleeve tops are set into the armholes.
