Gauge, needles and accessories
Gauge: 21 stitches × 29 rows in stocking stitch on 4 mm needles = 10 × 10 cm. Wash and block a swatch before starting, and adjust needle size to achieve the pattern gauge.
Needles: 4 mm circular needles (40 and 80–100 cm) and 4 mm double-pointed needles.
Four buttons, 20–25 mm.

Estimated yarn requirements
The following metre allowances are for each yarn separately, based on the designer’s original yarn quantities converted at 210 metres per 50 g for the main yarn and 210 metres per 25 g for the mohair. They are equivalent-metre estimates, not confirmed consumption for this substitute. Sunday supplies 235 metres per 50 g and Tynn Silk Mohair 212 metres per 25 g; round each yarn up to whole sale units when purchasing.

Make a washed and dried swatch with both strands together and match 21 stitches × 29 rows per 10 cm before starting. Adjust needle size as needed; extra length or a different gauge can increase yarn use.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are the Balloon Cardigan’s button bands added afterwards?
The front bands are worked as part of the cardigan. You will also need four buttons; the balloon sleeves finish with tighter wrist cuffs.
Should I choose a larger size for the balloon shape?
Use your bust measurement and the finished measurements first. The design already includes approximately 15 cm of positive ease and has a cropped body, so sizing up changes both the width and proportions.
Does this yarn option use two strands of Sunday?
No. For this Balloon Cardigan option, knit with one strand of Sandnes Garn Sunday and one strand of Sandnes Garn Tynn Silk Mohair together. Each column lists the metres needed for that individual yarn.
