Cross-over Cardigan, Hat & Booties Knitting Pattern — Naturally K616
A wrap-front baby cardigan with matching hat and booties, designed by Kay Henry. The leaflet includes separate 4ply and DK/8ply versions, with two buttons securing the crossover front.
Construction and skill guidance
The cardigan is knitted flat in separate fronts, back and sleeves with raglan shaping. The integral front bands extend around the back neck and are joined at the centre. The hat and booties are knitted flat and seamed. The 4ply hat has shaped earflaps and an optional crown stem; the DK hat has a ribbed brim.
Intermediate — shaping the wrap front and raglans, buttonholes, increases, decreases and seaming.
Sizes and fit
Choose by measurements, as the leaflet sizes by chest measurement rather than age.

Equivalent-metre estimates use the leaflet's original Classic 4ply allowances at 89 m per 25 g and Classic Prints DK allowances at 138 m per 50 g. Each column covers the complete set. Choose one yarn weight and follow its own instructions; do not add the columns together. Allow extra for swatching.
Gauge
4ply: 28 stitches and 36 rows to 10 cm in stocking stitch on 3.25 mm needles. DK/8ply: 24 stitches and 32 rows to 10 cm in stocking stitch on 3.75 mm needles. This DK gauge is tighter than NZ Merino 8ply's standard 22 stitches and 30 rows.
Check a washed and blocked swatch before beginning, adjust needle size to match both stitch and row gauge, and check the fabric suits your project. Replacement yarn allowances are estimates, not a guarantee of identical fabric or consumption.
