Agnete Cardigan Knitting Pattern by PetiteKnit
Printed knitting pattern in English. Yarn, needles and buttons are purchased separately.
Agnete Cardigan by PetiteKnit is a top-down brioche knitting pattern with a V-neck and integrated double-knitted button bands. Its textured fabric and carefully worked edges make it a project for confident knitters comfortable with advanced techniques.
Pattern at a glance
Designer difficulty: 5 out of 5. Sizes: XS–5XL.
Construction
Work the double-knitted back-neck section first, pick up stitches for the back yoke, then knit the front yokes separately. Join the body and work it back and forth in brioche, continuing the button bands and buttonholes together. Pick up the sleeves at the armholes and knit them down in the round.

Gauge and needles
Gauge: 19 stitches × 56 rows in brioche = 10 × 10 cm on 3 mm needles. In brioche, 56 rows count as 28 visible knit stitches.
Needles and materials: 3 mm circular needles in 40, 60, 80 and/or 100 cm lengths; 2.5 mm circular needles in 60 cm; 3 mm double-pointed needles. You will also need four 22–23 mm buttons.
Recommended yarn available at Wild & Woolly
Designer-recommended combination available from Wild & Woolly: hold one strand of Sandnes Garn Tynn Peer Gynt together with one strand of Sandnes Garn Tynn Silk Mohair throughout. Tynn Peer Gynt supplies the wool base and Tynn Silk Mohair the mohair-and-silk companion.

Metres are converted from PetiteKnit’s stated quantities. Each yarn column is the requirement for that component, used together. Check individual colour availability on the linked yarn pages.
Wild & Woolly alternative: Sunday with Tynn Silk Mohair
Hold one strand of Sandnes Garn Sunday together with one strand of Sandnes Garn Tynn Silk Mohair. Sunday is a non-superwash merino alternative to the designer’s Norwegian-wool base.

Shop substitution estimate: the Sunday allowance uses the same metres as PetiteKnit’s Tynn Peer Gynt requirement, not the same weight. Sunday has 235 m per 50 g, compared with Tynn Peer Gynt’s 205 m per 50 g. The Tynn Silk Mohair allowance is unchanged. These are estimated purchasing requirements, not designer-confirmed Sunday consumption. Wash or block a brioche swatch, check gauge and fabric, and allow extra yarn for swatching or length changes.
Before you cast on
Wash or block a brioche swatch before starting. PetiteKnit prioritises the correct stitch gauge; row gauge can vary with the yarn. Buy complete balls and allow extra yarn for swatching or changes to length and fit.
Frequently asked questions
Is Agnete suitable for a first brioche project?
PetiteKnit rates Agnete 5 out of 5. It combines brioche with double-knitted button bands, so experience with these techniques is helpful before tackling the cardigan.
How do I count Agnete’s brioche rows?
The 56-row gauge corresponds to 28 visible knit stitches. Measure a washed or blocked brioche swatch and check the stitch gauge carefully.
