Athene Sweater by PetiteKnit: An adult two-colour sweater with a shaped shoulder yoke, stranded colourwork and folded neck edge.
Construction
Shape the upper back with short rows and work each shoulder separately before joining the front. Work the colourwork in the round with steek stitches at the armholes, then cut the armhole openings and pick up the sleeves. The pattern also offers flat colourwork to avoid steeking.

Gauge, needles and notions
Gauge: 20 sts x 27 rows = 10 x 10 cm in stockinette stitch on a 4 mm needle; colourwork: 20 stitches × 26 rows over 10 × 10 cm on 4.5 mm needles.
Needles: Circular needles: 4 mm / 40, 60 and 80 and/or 100 cm , 4.5 mm / 80 and/or 100 cm and 3.5 mm / 40 and 80 and/or 100 cm ; Double-pointed needles: 3.5 mm , 4 mm and 4.5 mm (unless using the Magic Loop technique)
Swatch plain stockinette and colourwork separately. The pattern offers flat colourwork as an alternative to steeking. If you plan to steek, confirm a suitable reinforcement method for your chosen yarn before cutting.

Sandnes Garn Double Sunday. Use one strand in each of two colours. These shop estimates preserve the metre allowance of the designer’s yarn, rather than its weight. Double Sunday has 108 m per ball, compared with the original yarn’s 125 m per ball. It creates a different fabric; check washed swatches in both plain stockinette and stranded colourwork before buying the full quantity.

Do I have to steek Athene’s armholes?
No. The pattern offers flat colourwork as an alternative to knitting the armhole section in the round and cutting it open. If you choose steeking with Double Sunday, confirm a suitable reinforcement method before cutting.
Why does Athene need two different swatches?
Plain knitting and stranded colourwork can have different tensions. Check both washed swatches: the pattern requires 20 stitches per 10 cm in each, but gives different row gauges and suggested needle sizes.
