Yarn requirements
Naturally New Zealand Merino 4ply, the supplier’s current Baby Haven range, approximately 178 m per 50 g. Work with one strand and four colours.
| Size | Colour A (m) | Colour B (m) | Colour C (m) | Colour D (m) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 70 × 100 cm | 356 | 356 | 356 | 356 |
Approximate allowance for one blanket: 1,424 m total, divided between the four colours as shown. Converted from the original Baby Haven quantities at 178 m per 50 g. Colour A forms the contrasting bands; keep each colour’s allowance separate.
Gauge and preparation
28 stitches and 36 rows to 10 cm in stocking stitch on 3.25 mm needles. The gauge reference is stocking stitch, although the blanket uses textured stitches.
Make a washed and blocked swatch before starting, adjust needle size to match both stitch and row gauge, and allow extra yarn for swatching.
Needles and notions
3.25 mm knitting needles and a yarn needle for weaving in ends. A circular needle may be used to hold the blanket’s width comfortably, while working back and forth.
