Blocks and Stripes Baby Blanket Knit Kit
Blocks and Stripes Baby Blanket Knit Kit
Make a geometric baby blanket from squares of solid colour and narrow stripes in New Zealand Merino DK / 8ply. Choose Pinks & Purples or Teals & Greys. The finished blanket measures approximately 80 × 100 cm. A printed Naturally K3019 pattern and a separate square-by-square colour plan guide you through the layout.
Skill level and techniques
Intermediate. You'll work colour-block squares in four strips, make narrow two-colour stripes, join strips with a three-needle cast-off, and finish the edges.
Why you'll love this kit
- Four shades arranged across 20 squares in four knitted strips.
- A separate placement plan for each colourway identifies the shades and stripe pair in every square.
- Soft 100% New Zealand merino wool, worked one strand at a time.
Construction and skill level
Intermediate. Knit five squares in each of four strips, then join the strips along their long edges with a three-needle cast-off. Finish the outside edges using either of the two options in the printed pattern. The schematic is read from the bottom left, working upwards along each strip before moving right. Follow K3019 for the complete knitting instructions; each square is worked over 56 rows.
Finished measurement
Approximately 80 × 100 cm after gentle blocking.
Yarn supplied and colourways
New Zealand Merino DK / 8ply: 100% New Zealand merino wool, spun in Romania; 138 m per 50 g ball. K3019 specifies this same yarn, so there is no change of yarn weight or strand count. Each colourway uses two balls of each of four shades: 276 m per shade, or 1,104 m in total. Striped squares alternate two shades; they are not held together.
| Pattern colour | Pinks & Purples kit | Teals & Greys kit | Metres supplied per shade |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Glacier (2004) | Taupe (2009) | 276 m |
| 2 | Dusky Pink (2007) | Airforce Blue (2001) | 276 m |
| 3 | Grape (2011) | Before The Storm (2019) | 276 m |
| 4 | Charcoal (2015) | Charcoal (2015) | 276 m |
Both colourway lists reflect the yarn currently bundled with the kit. K3019 uses earlier names for some original shade codes; match the shade numbers on the yarn labels to the colour placement plan supplied with your kit.
Tension and needles
22 stitches and 30 rows = 10 cm in stocking stitch on 4.00 mm needles. Swatch and wash your sample before starting; adjust your working needle size if needed to achieve the pattern tension. K3019 calls for 4.00 mm knitting needles and two 3.25 mm circular needles with 100 cm cords for joining and edging. Choose the “With Needles” option if you want needles supplied; check the needle contents against your preferred pattern method. The “Without Needles” option excludes needles.
